Joint pain? Try Voltaren® Gels

joints

Our joints are responsible for connecting different bones together and help in moving and provide support to our internal structures. So when there’s a condition hampering their activity like pain, we won’t be able to do our day to day activities severely crippling us both physically and mentally. Joint pain is fairly common and according to statistics about 19 percent of total population is suffering from some kind of a joint pain, most commonly knee joint pain followed by shoulder and hip pain. These can be mildly annoying to extremely painful and lasting from few days to lifelong.

What are the most frequent causes of joint pain?

  • Osteoarthritis: This is a degenerative joint disease with inflammation that occurs as a result of ‘wear and tear’ of joints due to many reasons including ‘overuse’. Being the most common chronic joint condition, approximately 27 million Americans are currently under therapy for it. The cartilage in between wears and ultimately the two bony ends directly comes into contact severely affecting the joints mobility.
  •  Rheumatoid arthritis: This is an inflammatory condition where your immune system mistakenly attacks own body tissues causing problems. This is common in smaller joints affecting in a symmetrical manner.
  • Sprains and strains
  • Trauma (injury)

These can be extremely painful and debilitating making you miss work, affecting your healthy lifestyle (exercise) and handicapping your overall quality of life. There for the pain must be identified and harnessed early.

Associated symptoms

Few other features coupled with joint pain includes redness, warmth, swelling, stiffness and limping which are all results of the associated inflammation. Therefore attacking the dreaded ‘inflammation’ can make these symptoms go away for good.

How can Voltaren® gels help?

Voltaren Gel  is a fairly new analgesic medications introduced by Novartis pharmaceuticals and have already acclaimed its place as a leading painkiller, excelling numerous other brands. The non-greasy gels Voltaren Emulgel® and Voltaren max® can penetrate the skin and soft tissue and reduce the associated inflammation thereby alleviating symptoms like pain, redness and swelling to a great degree improving the overall function of the joint.

The gel series contains the innovative ‘Diclofenac diethylamine’ which can penetrate the skin and diffuse swiftly compared to other forms of diclofenac. Diclofenac is an acclaimed NSAID (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug) famed for its unique pain fighting capabilities and excellent safety record used with a number of auxiliary components for a boosted action.

Why gel? Not oral?

Gels are applied topically on the skin so there are less systemic effects, however, oral drugs enter into the blood stream which can yield some unwanted dangerous side effects. As an example, oral diclofenac can cause upset stomach, constipation, diarrhea, stuffy nose, itching and high blood pressure which we didn’t ask for. Other oral drugs like steroids for pain can even be more harmful due to their ‘immune lowering’ mechanism making us vulnerable for a number of infections and even cancers. Therefore not only for pain, for any other condition if you get to choose between oral and topical always go topical.

It is true that small amount of diclofenac from gels can enter blood stream but that is drastically smaller than systemic drugs making them safer to use as overdosing is highly unlikely. You can use extra strength gels even without any fear as Voltaren max® contains twice the dose but due to its sustained release mechanism the amount entering the blood will be scanty.

Which gel should I choose?

Currently, there are two forms of gels to go for. Voltaren Emulgel and Voltaren max which are unique in their own way.  Voltaren Emulgel

® is An efficient, fast acting, whitish, homogenous gel that contains diclofenac diethylamine at 1.16% w/w concentration rendering it ideal for trivial day to day aches and pains. Due to its lower concentration, it can be applied three to four times a day.

Voltaren max® is stronger having 2.32% w/w of diclofenac diethylamine making it exemplary for the busy individuals with chronic joint issues as you only have to rub it twice a day usually in the mornings and evenings. However, when using Voltaren max® you have to stick to the ‘twice a day only’ rule due to its high concentration.

Joint pain is a very common problem, but that doesn’t mean you have to suffer from it every day. You have to get things in hand without letting it ruin you physically and mentally. Voltaren is the best non-prescription option currently available for your pains.
